I saw someone ask this question on Indie Hackers. After skimming through the responses, I realized that a lot of people have the wrong take about written content. This was confirmed after a quick research on Google as well.

I have a complete different take on this topic. I’ll let you be the judge of whether this makes sense or not.

One of the most important benefits of content is to spread awareness. Be it about your brand, your company, you charity, your ideologies, etc.

This ‘spreading’ part happens when either you share your content with people, or when someone searches for related information. Both means more attention on your brand, which means more awareness.

If you can provide more branded content, frequently, through several sources and/or platforms, it’ll increase the chances of, a) more people seeing your brand, and, b) your brand being etched into people's minds relatively easily.

Not only that, but also if you’re able to deliver content from multiple sources (even if they're the same medium) it’ll work as a sort of a ‘confirmation’ in your audience's minds. This will ensure that your brand is not one of the other thousands of brands that they ‘see’ everyday and forget after 5 seconds.

One of the best things about this is that when you have a lot of branded content, swimming around on multiple platforms, spreading your brand’s name around, you’ll get the attention of influencers, media outlets, publications, etc. This will lead to getting product reviews, backlinks (tier-1), mentions, guest appearances, and other good stuff.

Even if they don’t come organically, you’d still stand out from the competition when you’re reaching out to an influencer, a blogger, or a publication.

From there, it’s just snowball effect.

FYI, this strategy is used by brands like Canva, Godaddy, Hubspot, Shopify, BlueHost, and a lot of other successful companies. Try searching something even remotely related to their niches, and you’ll see at least 3-5 search results on the first page.

In spite of that, there’s still a lot of room for others to join the party.

So, to answer our initial question, NO, there’s no such thing as ‘too much content’. It’s all about how you can distribute more content to grow and maintain your market equity.

Till next time.
